Together with Euroheat&Power, Housing Europe and Energy Cities, EFIEES has co-signed a letter calling for the full recognition of efficient district heating and cooling as a solution to the decarbonisation of the building sector in the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) recast.

The letter includes the following recommendations:

  • A building supplied by an efficient district heating and cooling system fulfilling the definition laid out in article 24 of the Energy Efficiency Directive should be considered as meeting the “zero-emission buildings” requirements.
  • The related Annex III should also be designed in a way which ensures that efficient district heating and cooling systems are integral to ZEB.
