With regard to our mission, EFIEES has been closely following the work on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) recast and we would like to highlight two key elements that need kept in mind while discussing the directive:

  1. On the top of accelerating renovation rate, the EPBD should also focus on dynamic energy performance guaranteed over time, and further promotion of effective energy management, as a way to implement and materialise the Energy Efficiency First principle. Thus, it is of utmost importance to keep the Parliament’s amendments referring to energy management solutions and notably its position on the definition of staged deep renovation.
  2. As Efficient District Heating And Cooling (EDHC) systems already greatly contribute to the decarbonisation of the heating sector and will do even more in the future, the revision of the EPBD must ensure that zero emission buildings (ZEB) can be supplied with energy from efficient district heating and cooling systems.
